The rumor that Apple would be calling its next flagship smartphone as iPhone 7 has brought forth another rumor that it will come with a smaller 4-inch version which the American tech giant could refer to as iPhone 7C.
There are two major rumors going around these days regarding the next flagship smartphones of Apple. The first rumor states that the American tech giant would be releasing the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus come September, which is normally the month when Apple launches its latest smartphones. The other rumor indicates that Apple would be launching three flagship smartphones including the iPhone 6S, the iPhone 6S Plus, and the iPhone 6C.
With the supposed leaked on the iPhone 6C in the last week of May, the new rumor bolster the first set of rumor about the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. But instead of two, there will be three types of iPhone 7 coming along including the iPhone 7C.
Again, since Apple is keeping mum about its next set of iPhones, these are just speculations at this time and it is likely that people will get to know the truth when the company finally unveils its smartphone offerings come September.
A different twist
But there’s a different twist to the iPhone 7C rumor as reported by the Business Insider. Accordingly, the new 4-inch iPhone is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2017 and not September, which makes it rather off-target since it has been the tradition of the American tech giant to launch its iPhones in September since 2012.
The drawback in this iPhone 7C rumor is that Apple has released an iPhone 5C previously and if it will skip iPhone 6C and go straight to producing an iPhone 7C, it would really put the American tech company in an awkward position.
However, with the new iPhone 7C rumor, compared to the iPhone 6C leak late in May, it has become apparent that Apple will indeed launch a smaller 4-inch iPhone come September, regardless of how the company will officially call it.
Apple’s iPhone lines
Going back to how Apple started launching its iPhone after the second iteration, it has released an iPhone 3G, an iPhone 3GS, an iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S, an iPhone 5, an iPhone 5S, and an iPhone 6 along with an iPhone 6 Plus.
Banking on Apple’s launching history, the next iPhone would be an iPhone 6S. However, over the past two years, Apple has deviated from its smartphone launching pattern by releasing an iPhone 5C along with the iPhone 5S in 2013, and an iPhone 6 Plus alongside the iPhone 6 in 2014.
While Apple has yet to make an official statement or announcement on what it intends to call its next iPhone, everyone who is aware of the rumors know for sure that the American tech giant will be launching a more powerful and certainly better, specifications and features wise, iPhone compared to the iPhone 6.
It has been said that iPhone 7 would be lighter because Apple will be using a stronger sapphire glass and more durable liquidmetal materials on its next iPhone.
Based on the latest rumors, the iPhone 7 shall feature Force Touch display which the American tech company used in the Apple Watch and its new MacBook.
But accordingly, it will be a bit different on the iPhone than the technology used in the Apple Watch and the new MacBook. Instead of measuring the pressure that the user puts on the screen to determine whether he is pressing or is merely tapping, in the next iPhone, it will actually detect the contact area of the user’s finger to make the distinction.
It has also been rumored that the next iPhone would have a new mobile operating system which seems likely if indeed Apple would be unveiling the iOS 9 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2015 to be held on June 8.
